its own printed caption, and every stanza has twelve lines:
| música | legenda impressa | versos |

| 2 (p. 62, um sistema) | *Music for the third and fourth lines in each stanza.* | 3, 4 |
| 3 (p. 63, dois sistemas de uma pauta com duas vozes) | *Music for the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth lines in each stanza.* | 7, 8, 9, 10 |
The first stanza is printed partly between the staves (lines 1–4) and partly as prose under them
(lines 5–12); stanzas 2 and 3 are printed in verse on p. 63.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the wilderness shall bloom ;
And Zion's children then shall sing,
The deserts all are blossoming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the wilderness shall bloom,
The Gospel banner, wide unfurl'd,
Shall wave in triumph o'er the world,
And ev'ry creature, bond or free,
Shall hail the glorious jubilee.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the wilderness shall bloom.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, Jerusalem shall sing;
From Zion shall the law go forth,
And all shall hear, from south to north.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, Jerusalem shall sing;
And truth shall sit on ev'ry hill,
And blessings flow in ev'ry rill,
And praise shall ev'ry heart employ,
And ev'ry voice shall shout for joy.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, Jerusalem shall sing.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the " PRINCE OF PEACE " shall reign;
And lambs may with the leopard play,
For naught shall harm in Zion's way.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the " PRINCE OF PEACE " shall reign;
The sword and spear of needless worth,
Shall prune the tree and plough the earth,
For peace shall smile from shore to shore,
And nations shall learn war no more.
Rejoice, rejoice, the promis'd time is coming,
Rejoice, rejoice, the " PRINCE OF PEACE " shall reign.
«PRINCE OF PEACE» is printed in small capitals, between quotation marks spaced as here. In stanza 3
the printer could not fit the second line and set the word «reign;» at the end of the *following*
line inside square brackets («And lambs may with the leopard play, [reign;») — a turned-over word,
not part of that line; it is restored to its place above.
