⤢ Full screenGreat God, attend while Zion sings
The joy that from thy presence springs;
To spend one day with thee on earth
Exceeds a thousand days of mirth.
Might I enjoy the humblest place
Within thy house, O God of grace!
Not tents of ease, nor thrones of power,
Should tempt my feet to leave thy door.
God is our sun, he makes our day;
God is our shield, he guards our way
From all assaults of hell and sin,
From foes without and foes within.
All needful grace will God bestow,
And crown that grace with glory, too;
He gives us all things, and withholds
No needed good from upright souls.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «25», reference line «3, 58, 212.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 3, 58 or 212), four numbered stanzas at the top of the right column of p. 13, «Isaac Watts.» in italics at the end. The first word «GREAT» is set in small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («springs ;», «grace !», «day ;», «too ;»); it is closed up here. Between «one» and «day» (stanza 1, line 3) the print shows a small stray mark at the baseline — a speck or a damaged type, not a hyphen (the PDF text layer reads «one-day»); written «one day». The stanzas are set flush (no indented lines). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
