⤢ Full screenO worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,
Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
With gold of obedience, and incense of lowliness,
Kneel and adore him, the Lord is his name.
Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness,
High on his heart he will bear it for thee,
Comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness,
Guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.
Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness
Of the poor wealth thou wouldst reckon as thine:
Truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness,
These are the offerings to lay on his shrine.
These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness,
He will accept for the Name that is dear;
Mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness,
Trust for our trembling, and hope for our fear.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «45», tune name «SOUTHAMPTON. 12s & 10s.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «EDWIN BARNES.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—PRAISE AND REVERENCE OF GOD.»; in the left margin, printed vertically and reading upward, «Copyrighted 1886 by Edwin Barnes.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system (a 12s and a 10s verse line per system), with «1.» before «O»; only «be-fore» and «a-dore» are printed hyphenated there, every other word is set whole. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in two columns below the music (stanza 3 runs from the left column into the right); there is no reference line (the hymn has its own tune). «Anon.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («proclaim ;», «thine :», «dear ;»); it is closed up here. «prayer-» / «fulness» (stanza 2) is broken only by the end of the printed line and is joined. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Name»); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
