Words
⤢ Full screenHigh in the heavens, eternal God,
Thy goodness in full glory shines;
Thy truth shall break through every cloud
That vails thy just and wise designs.
Forever firm thy justice stands,
As mountains their foundations keep;
Wise as the wonders of thy hands,
Thy judgments are a mighty deep.
O God, how excellent thy grace,
Whence all our hope and comfort spring!
The sons of Adam, in distress,
Fly to the shadow of thy wing.
In the provisions of thy house
We still shall find a sweet repast;
There mercy like a river flows,
And brings salvation to our taste.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «47», tune name «AMES. L. M.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «SIGISMUND NEUKOMN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals; the composer's name is spelled «Neukomn» on the plate, usually «Neukomm» — kept as printed); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «High». Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «19, 3, 101.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 19, 3 or 101). «Isaac Watts.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («shines ;», «keep ;», «spring !», «repast ;»); it is closed up here. Lines 2 and 4 of stanzas 2–4 are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («vails»).
