Worship — Attributes and Providence of God

Lord! thou hast searched and seen me through

1

Lord! thou hast searched and seen me through;
Thine eye commands with piercing view
My rising and my resting hours,
My heart and flesh, with all their powers.

2

My thoughts, before they are my own,
Are to my God distinctly known;
He knows the words I mean to speak
Ere from my opening lips they break.

3

Within thy circling power I stand;
On every side I find thy hand;
Awake, asleep, at home, abroad,
I am surrounded still with God.

4

Amazing knowledge, vast and great!
What large extent! what lofty hight!
My soul, with all the powers I boast,
Is in the boundless prospect lost.

5

O, may these thoughts possess my breast
Where'er I rove, where'er I rest;
Nor let my weaker passions dare
Consent to sin, for God is there!

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «53», reference line «316, 542, 314.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 316, 542 or 314), five numbered stanzas in the right column of p. 21 below hymn 52, «Isaac Watts.» in italics at the end. The first word «LORD» is set in capitals and small capitals. The first line is too long for the column: «through;» runs over to a second, indented printed line; it is joined here. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («LORD !», «through ;», «known ;», «stand ;», «hand ;», «great !», «extent !», «hight !», «rest ;», «there !»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («hight», «Where'er»); the lines of each stanza are set flush (no indentation). No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
