⤢ Full screenEternal depth of love divine,
In Jesus, God with us, displayed,
How bright thy beaming glories shine!
How wide thy healing streams are spread!
With whom dost thou delight to dwell?
Sinners, a vile and thankless race!
O God, what tongue aright can tell
How vast thy love, how great thy grace?
The dictates of thy sovereign will
With joy our grateful hearts receive;
All thy delight in us fulfill:
Lo, all we are, to thee we give.
To thy sure love, thy tender care,
Our flesh, soul, spirit, we resign;
O, fix thy sacred presence there,
And seal the abode forever thine!
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «54», tune name «ROTHWELL. L. M.» centred over the music, «WILLIAM TANSUR.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «E-»; the tune sings the fourth line twice («How wide thy heal - ing streams are spread, How wide thy heal - ing streams are spread!») — the stanza below gives the line once, as poetry, with the final «!». Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «19, 47. 108.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 19, 47 or 108; the full stop after «47» is the print's); «Nicolaus L. Zinzendorf.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «?», «!» and «;» («dwell ?», «race !», «grace ?», «receive ;», «resign ;», «thine !»); it is closed up here. «grace?» (stanza 2) is carried over to a line of its own by the column width; it is joined here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. In the exemplar the author's name is underlined by a hand-drawn wavy stroke and «LH / L2» is written in ink in the margin of the music — owner's marks, not transcribed.
