⤢ Full screenCome, ye that know and fear the Lord,
And raise your thoughts above;
Let every heart and voice accord,
To sing that "God is love."
This precious truth his word declares,
And all his mercies prove;
Jesus, the gift of gifts, appears,
To show that "God is love."
Behold his patience bearing long
With those who from him rove,
Till mighty grace their hearts subdues
To teach them "God is love."
O may we all, while here below,
This best of blessings prove,
Till warmer hearts in brighter worlds
Proclaim that "God is love."
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «70», tune name «ZERAH. C. M.» centred over the music, «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Come,»; the music sings its last two lines twice («Let every heart and voice accord, To sing that "God is love;" Let ev-ery heart and voice ac-cord, To sing that "God is love."»), printed out in full under the second system — the stanza below gives the four verse lines once, as a poem. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «27, 187, 264.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 27, 187 or 264). «G. Burder.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» («a-bove ;», «love ; "», «prove ;»); it is closed up here. Stanza 1 ends its third line «voice accord,» and its fourth «"God is love."» — under the music line 4 ends first with «love;"» and, in the repeat, with «love."»; the poem keeps the final reading. Quotation marks are straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of stanzas 2–4 are indented in the print.
