⤢ Full screenO worship the King, all-glorious above,
And gratefully sing his wonderful love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
O tell of his might and sing of his grace,
Whose robe is the light; whose canopy, space;
His chariots of wrath the deep thunder-clouds form,
And dark is his path on the wings of the storm.
Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.
Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
Thy mercies, how tender! how firm to the end!
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «97», tune name «LYONS. 10s & 11s.» centred over the music, «Francis J. Haydn.» at the right (capitals and small capitals; a wavy pen line under it belongs to this exemplar, not to the print); running head «WORSHIP—ATTRIBUTES AND PROVIDENCE OF GOD.». No reference line (the hymn has its own tune). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «O»; the printer hyphenated only some of its syllables («a-bove», «grate-ful-ly», «won - derful», «Pa - vilioned», «gird-ed»). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music; «Robert Grant.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «?» and «!» («light ;», «space ;», «recite ?», «fail ;», «tender !», «end !», «Friend !»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Pavilioned», «distills», «In Thee … find thee»). The four lines of each stanza are printed flush (runover words indented), without alternate indentation.
