⤢ Full screenJesus, thou joy of loving hearts!
Thou fount of life! thou light of men!
From the best bliss that earth imparts,
We turn unfilled to thee again.
Thy truth unchanged has ever stood;
Thou savest those that on thee call;
To them that seek thee, thou art good,
To them that find thee, all in all.
We taste thee, O thou Living Bread,
And long to feast upon thee still;
We drink of thee, the Fountain-head,
And thirst our souls from thee to fill!
Our restless spirits yearn for thee,
Where'er our changeful lot is cast;
Glad, when thy gracious smile we see,
Blest, when our faith can hold thee fast.
O Jesus, ever with us stay;
Make all our moments calm and bright;
Chase the dark night of sin away,
Shed o'er the world thy holy light!
About this hymn
As printed As printed: hymn number «108», tune name «MIGDOL. L. M,» centred over the music (the last mark has a small descending tail — a comma or a damaged period), «Lowell Mason.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); running head «WORSHIP—ADORATION OF CHRIST.». Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one half-stanza per system, with «1.» before «Je-»; «imparts,» is printed solid (no hyphen) although it is sung on two notes. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «101, 336, 301.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 101, 336 or 301). «Bernard of Clairvaux.» in italics after stanza 5 (a handwritten «(1091-1153)» in ink before it and a pen stroke under it are annotations of the exemplar, not transcribed). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («stood ;», «call ;», «still ;», «fill !», «cast ;», «stay ;», «bright ;», «light !», and «hearts !», «life !», «men !» under the staves); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
