⤢ Full screenAwake, my soul, in joyful lays,
And sing thy great Redeemer's praise;
He justly claims a song from me,
His loving kindness, O, how free!
He saw me ruined in the fall,
Yet loved me, notwithstanding all;
He saved me from my lost estate:
His loving-kindness, O, how great!
Though numerous hosts of mighty foes,
Though earth and hell my way oppose,
He safely leads my soul along:
His loving-kindness, O, how strong!
When trouble, like a gloomy cloud,
Has gathered thick and thundered loud,
He near my soul has always stood:
His loving-kindness, O, how good!
And when earth's rightful King shall come
To take his ransomed people home,
I'll sing upon that blissful shore
His loving-kindness evermore.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «110», reference line «1168, 101, 47.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 1168, 101 or 47); all five stanzas in the right column of p. 40 below hymn 109, «Samuel Medley.» in italics at the end. The first word «AWAKE» is set in capitals and small capitals. Unlike hymns 108 and 109, no line of this hymn is indented. Stanza 1, line 4 prints «loving kindness» as two words, stanzas 2–5 «loving-kindness» with a hyphen — both as printed. Stanza 5, line 1 runs over in the print («…rightful King shall / come»); joined here. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («praise ;», «free !», «all ;», «great !», «strong !», «stood :», «good !»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
