⤢ Full screenHail, sacred truth! whose piercing rays
Dispel the shades of night,
Diffusing o'er a ruined world
The healing beams of light.
Jesus, thy word, with friendly aid,
Restores our wandering feet;
Converts the sorrows of the mind
To joys divinely sweet.
O send thy light and truth abroad,
In all their radiant blaze;
And bid the admiring world adore
The glories of thy grace.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «186», reference line «175, 120, 669.» in italics (sing to the tune of hymn 175, 120 or 669); the whole hymn stands at the foot of the right column of p. 64, below hymn 185; «John Buttress.» in italics (swash «J») at the end. The first word «HAIL» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («truth !», «feet ;», «blaze ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («o'er»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6).
