⤢ Full screenO that the Lord would guide my ways
To keep his statutes still!
O that my God would grant me grace
To know and do his will!
O send thy Spirit down to write
Thy law upon my heart,
Nor let my tongue indulge deceit,
Nor act the liar's part.
From vanity turn off my eyes,
Let no corrupt design
Nor covetous desires arise
Within this soul of mine.
Order my footsteps by thy word,
And make my heart sincere;
Let sin have no dominion, Lord,
But keep my conscience clear.
Make me to walk in thy commands,
'Tis a delightful road;
Nor let my head, nor heart, nor hands
Offend against my God.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—LAW OF GOD.»; hymn number «201» (large), tune name «LITCHFIELD. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «O»; under the staves «stat - utes» is hyphenated. Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «27, 7, 204.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 27, 7 or 204). «Isaac Watts.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («still !», «will !», «sincere ;», «road ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («liar's», «'Tis»). Stanza 3 line 2 («Let no corrupt design») ends without punctuation in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
