⤢ Full screenWelcome, sacred day of rest!
Sweet repose from worldly care,
Day above all days the best,
When our souls for heaven prepare.
Gracious Lord, we love this day,
When we hear thy holy word;
When we sing thy praise, and pray;
Earth can no such joys afford.
But a better rest remains,—
Heavenly Sabbaths, happier days,
Rest from sin, and rest from pains,
Endless joys, and endless praise.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «243» (large) with the reference line «407, 457, 480.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 407, 457 or 480), at the foot of the right column of p. 80; three stanzas, then «Anon,» in italics — with a comma, not the period of the other signatures, as printed. The first word «WELCOME» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and once before a comma («rest !», «care ,», «word ;», «pray ;»); it is closed up here. Stanza 3 line 1 ends «remains,—» (comma and dash), as printed. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is 7s).
