God has brought us on our way;
Let us now a blessing seek,
Waiting in his courts to-day,—
Day of all the week the best,
Emblem of eternal rest.
While we seek supplies of grace
Through the dear Redeemer's name,
Show thy reconciling face,
Take away our sin and shame;
From our worldly cares set free
May we rest this day in thee.
Here we come thy name to praise,
May we feel thy presence near,
May thy glory meet our eyes
While we in thy courts appear;
Here afford us, Lord, a taste
Of our everlasting feast.
May the gospel's joyful sound
Conquer sinners, comfort saints;
Make the fruits of grace abound,
Bring relief to all complaints;
Thus may all our Sabbaths be
Till we rise to reign with thee.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—THE SABBATH.»; hymn number «244» (large), tune name «SABBATH. 7s. 6l.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Safe-ly». The music sings lines 5–6 twice («Day of all the week the best, Emblem of e-ter-nal rest, Day of all the week the best, Emblem of e - ter - nal rest.»), printed out in full under the staves — the stanza below gives the six verse lines once, as a poem, with the final reading «rest.». Under the staves «to - day» is divided at its hyphen; the poem keeps the book's spelling «to-day». Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «1114, 827, 685,» in bold italic figures (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 1114, 827 or 685; the print ends the line with a comma). «John Newton.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» («way ;», «shame ;», «appear ;», «saints ;», «complaints ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («Redeemer's», «gospel's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print, lines 5–6 further.
