⤢ Full screenWelcome, delightful morn,
Thou day of sacred rest;
I hail thy kind return;
Lord, make these moments blest.
From the low train of mortal toys
I soar to reach immortal joys.
Now may the King descend,
And fill his throne of grace;
Thy scepter, Lord, extend,
While saints address thy face;
Let sinners feel thy quickening word,
And learn to know and fear the Lord.
Descend, celestial Dove,
With all thy quickening powers;
Disclose a Saviour's love,
And bless these sacred hours:
Then shall my soul new life obtain,
Nor Sabbath-days be passed in vain.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—THE SABBATH.»; hymn number «254» (large), tune name «LISCHER. H. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «F. SCHNEIDER.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, with «1.» before «Welcome,»: its first four lines are printed in two rows in braces under a section of the music that is repeated («{ Welcome, delightful morn, Thou day of sa-cred rest; / I hail thy kind re-turn; Lord, make these moments blest. }»: first and second time), then «From the low train of mor-tal toys» and, on system 2, «I soar to reach im - mor - tal joys,» sung twice by the treble («joys,» … «joys.»), the second time with the tenor and bass entering on a second row «I soar to reach im - mor - tal joys.». Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in two columns below the music, under the reference line «252, 167, 359.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 252, 167 or 359); «Hayward.» in italics after stanza 3. In the text stanzas, lines 2 and 4 are indented. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («grace ;», «face ;», «powers ;», «hours :», «rest ;», «re-turn ;»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «Saviour's» is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
