1

Our Father in heaven, thy promise we claim,
To meet with a few who have met in thy name;
We thank thee to-day for this Sabbath of rest,
Divine is its mission, divinely 'tis blest.

2

We praise thee, our Maker, our God, and our King,
Extolling thy goodness we joyfully sing;
For thou hast preserved us, and guarded our way,
From hour unto hour, and from day unto day.

3

O send us thy Spirit, and teach us thy word,
Nor let thy sweet blessings from us be deferred;
O help us, our Father, thy will to discern,
And ever to practice the truths that we learn.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—THE SABBATH.»; hymn number «255» (large), tune name «OTTO. 11s.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «D. S. HAKES.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Our»; under the staves «Fa-ther», «to - day», «Di - vine», «di - vine - ly» are hyphenated, while «heaven», «promise», «Sabbath» and «mission» are printed unbroken under two notes each. Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in two columns below the music, under the reference line «512, 611.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 512 or 611); «F. E. Belden.» in italics after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» («name ;», «sing ;», «deferred ;»); it is closed up here. The long eleven-syllable lines of stanzas 2 and 3 are broken by the narrow column («and / our King,», «guarded / our way,», «day / unto day.», «thy / word,», «be / deferred;», «we / learn.»); they are joined here, one verse per line. The apostrophe of «'tis» is written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
