Worship — Closing Hymns

Lord, at this closing hour

  • No. 267
  • Words E. T. Fitch.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Lord, at this closing hour
Establish every heart
Upon thy word of truth and power,
To keep us when we part.

2

Peace to our brethren give,
Fill all our hearts with love;
In faith and patience may we live,
And seek our rest above.

3

Through changes, bright or drear,
We would thy will pursue,
And toil to spread thy kingdom here
Till we its glory view.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «267» (large) with the reference line «688, 151, 191,» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 688, 151 or 191; the line ends with a comma); the hymn stands at the foot of the left column of p. 88, below hymn 266, and ends there with «E. T. Fitch.» in italics. The first word «LORD» is set in capitals and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» («love ;»); it is closed up here. Line 2 of stanza 1 («Establish every heart») has no punctuation at its end, as printed. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the three tunes of the reference line).
