⤢ Full screenPraise to Him by whose kind favor
Heavenly truth has reached our ears;
May its sweet reviving savor
Fill our hearts and calm our fears.
Truth! how sacred is the treasure!
Teach us, Lord, its worth to know;
Vain the hope and short the pleasure
Which from other sources flow.
What of truth we have been hearing,
Fix, O Lord, in every heart;
In the day of thy appearing
May we share thy people's part
Till we leave this world forever,
May we live beneath thine eye;
This our aim, our sole endeavor,
Thine to live, or thine to die.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WORSHIP—CLOSING HYMNS.»; hymn number «277» (large), tune name «WILMOT. 8s & 7s.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «CARL M. VON WEBER.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Praise»; under the staves «fa - vor», «re - viv - ing» and «sav - or» are hyphenated, while «Heavenly» is printed as one unbroken word under two notes. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «162, 41, 92.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 162, 41 or 92). «Anon.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («Truth !», «treasure !», «know ;», «heart ;», «eye ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophe is written straight («people's»). Stanza 3 line 4 «May we share thy people's part» ends without punctuation in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print.
