Christ — Resurrection and Ascension

I know that my Redeemer lives

  • No. 337
  • Words Samuel Medley.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

I know that my Redeemer lives—What joy the blest assurance gives! He lives, he lives, who once was dead:He lives, my everlasting Head!

2

He lives to bless me with his love,He lives to plead for me above,He lives my hungry soul to feed,He lives to help in time of need.

3

He lives, and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare,He lives to bring me safely there.

4

He lives, all glory to his name!He lives, my Saviour, still the same; What joy the blest assurance gives,—I know that my Redeemer lives!

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «337» (large) with the reference line «223, 64, 58.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 223, 64 or 58), in the left column of p. 112 below the end of hymn 336 and «Charles Wesley.»; stanzas 1–2 in the left column, stanzas 3–4 at the top of the right column, then «Samuel Medley.» in italics. The first words «I KNOW» are set as a capital «I» followed by «KNOW» in small capitals; written in ordinary type here. The stanza numbers are printed without a period («1» … «4»); written «1.» … here as in the other deliveries of this book. The print sets a thin space before «!», «:» and «;» («gives !», «dead :», «Head !», «death ;», «name !», «same ;», «lives !»); it is closed up here. Stanza 2 line 4 «lives» is printed with a broken «e» (its bar did not print: «livcs»); it is the word «lives». No meter is printed (the text is L. M., like the referenced tunes). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
