⤢ Full screenThe wonders of redeeming loveOur highest thoughts exceed; The Son of God comes from above,For sinful man to bleed.
He gives himself, his life, his all,A sinless Sacrifice. For man he drains the cup of gall,For man the victim dies.
And now before his Father's faceHis precious blood he pleads; For those who seek the throne of graceHis love still intercedes.
He knows the frailties of our frame,For he has borne our grief; Our great High Priest once felt the same,And he can send relief.
His love will not be satisfied,Till he in glory seeThe faithful ones for whom he diedFrom sin forever free.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «CHRIST—MEDIATION AND ATONEMENT.»; hymn number «354» (large), tune name «WOODLAND. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «NATHANIEL D. GOULD.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one line per system, with «1.» before «The». The music sings verse line 3 twice: under the staves it reads «The Son of God comes from above, The Son of God comes from a - bove For sin - ful man to bleed.» (the first time «above,» as one word with a comma, the second time «a - bove» hyphenated without punctuation); the stanzas below are given with the line once, as the text stanzas 2–5 are printed. Under the staves «highest», «exceed;» and «above,» are printed as whole words under two notes each; «Godcomes» is set without a space under system 2 (a raised speck stands between «God» and «comes» under system 1). The italic reference line «669, 27, 70.» (= the same words may be sung to the tunes of hymns 669, 27 or 70) stands under the music; stanzas 2–5 follow as text in the left column, numbered «2»–«5», with «R. F. Cottrell.» in italics after stanza 5. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;» under the staves («exceed ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals («A sinless Sacrifice.», «High Priest») are the print's.
