⤢ Full screenReturn, O wanderer, return,And seek thy Father's face; Those new desires which in thee burn,Were kindled by his grace.
Return, O wanderer, return,He hears thy humble sigh;He sees thy softened spirit mourn,When no one else is nigh.
Return, O wanderer, return;Thy Saviour bids thee live;Come to his cross, and, grateful, learnHow freely he 'll forgive.
Return, O wanderer, return,And wipe the falling tear;Thy Father calls—no longer mourn;'Tis love invites thee near.
Return, O wanderer, return;Regain thy long-sought rest; The Saviour's melting mercies yearnTo clasp thee to his breast.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE SINNER—WARNING AND INVITATION.»; hymn number «395» (large), tune name «BALERMA. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals), «ARR. BY R. SIMPSON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «Re» (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «227, 889.» in italics (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 227 or 889). «Wm. B. Collyer.» in italics after stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;» («face ;», «sigh ;», «return ;», «live ;», «tear ;», «mourn ;», «rest ;»); it is closed up here. «he 'll» (stanza 3) is set with a gap between «he» and the apostrophe and is written so, as «I 'll» in HT_0122 and other deliveries of this book; «'Tis» (stanza 4) is set closed. The long dash of stanza 4 («calls—no») is written as one em dash, as in HT_0121. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight. The stanza numbers of the text column are printed without a period («2» … «5»); they are written «2.» … here, like the interlinear «1.», as in the other deliveries of this book. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
