⤢ Full screenAcquaint thyself quickly, O sinner, with God;And joy, like the sunshine, shall beam on thy road; And peace, like the dewdrop, shall fall on thy head; And sleep, like an angel, shall visit thy bed.
Acquaint thyself quickly, O sinner, with God;And he shall be with thee when fears are abroad,Thy Safeguard in danger that threatens thy path,Thy Joy in the valley and shadow of death.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «419» (large) with the reference line «511, 781, 783.» in italics beside it (= sung to the tunes of hymns 511, 781 or 783); the hymn stands in the lower half of the right column of p. 135, below the end of hymn 418, and ends at the foot of that column with «Knox.» in italics. The first word «ACQUAINT» is set in capitals and small capitals; it is written «Acquaint» here. No meter is printed (the text is 11s, like hymns 417 and 418). The long verse lines are broken by the column width (the turn-overs «God;», «thy road;», «thy head;», «abroad,», «thy path,» are set on their own indented lines); they are joined here, one verse per line (no word is broken at a turn-over). Lines 2–4 of each stanza are printed at the same indent (no alternate indentation). The stanza numbers are printed without a period; they are written «1.», «2.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book. The print sets a thin space before «;» («God ;», «road ;», «head ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's («Safeguard», «Joy»).
