The Sinner — Repentance and Acceptance

Awaked from sin's delusive sleep

  • No. 433
  • Words Thomas Moore.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Awaked from sin's delusive sleep,My heavy guilt I feel, and weep;Beneath a weight of woes oppressed,I come to thee, my Lord, for rest.

2

Now, from thy throne of grace above,Look down upon my soul in love; That smile shall sweeten all my pain,And make my soul rejoice again.

3

By thy divine, transforming power,My ruined nature now restore; And let my life and temper shine,In blest resemblance, Lord, to thine.

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «433» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 141, under the music of hymn 431, with the italic reference line «212, 101, 23.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 212, 101 or 23) beside the number; three stanzas, numbered «1»–«3»; «Thomas Moore.» in italics after stanza 3. The first word «AWAKED» is set in capitals and small capitals. In this hymn all four lines of each stanza are set flush (lines 2 and 4 are NOT indented). The print sets a thin space before «;» («weep ;», «love ;», «restore ;»); it is closed up here. No meter is printed (the text is L. M., like the three tunes referred to). Spelling and punctuation are the print's.
