⤢ Full screenI seek the mercy-seat,Where Thou dost answer prayer; There humbly fall before thy feet,For none can perish there.
Thy promise is my plea; With this I venture nigh;Thou callest burdened souls to thee,And such, O Lord, am I.
Bowed down beneath my sin,By Satan sorely pressed;By wars without and fears within;I come to thee for rest.
Be thou my hiding-place;That, sheltered near thy side,I may rejoice in Jesus' grace—In Jesus crucified.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «455» (large) with the reference line «384, 782, 736.» in italics beside it — the middle figure is read here as 732 (an ink-closed 3: hymn 782 is an 11s hymn, 732 is DAY. S. M.; see uncertainties.md) — (sing to the tune of hymn 384, 732 or 736); the hymn stands at the head of the right column of p. 147 and ends with «Anon.» in italics, above hymn 456. The first words «I SEEK» are set as a capital I followed by «SEEK» in small capitals. «WhereThou» is printed with no visible word space (an over-tight line); written «Where Thou». The print sets a thin space before «;» («prayer ;», «plea ;», «nigh ;», «pressed ;», «within ;», «hiding-place ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's apostrophe is written straight («Jesus'»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals («Thou» capitalized in stanza 1, «thy», «thee» lower-case) are the print's. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the tunes of the reference line).
