⤢ Full screenSpeak often to each other,To cheer the fainting mind; And often be your voicesIn pure devotion joined;Though trials may await you,The crown before you lies;Take courage, brother pilgrim,And soon you'll win the prize.
Ye shall be mine, says Jesus,In that auspicious dayWhen I make up my jewels,Released from cumb'rous clay;He 'll polish and refine youFrom worthless dross and tin,And to his heavenly kingdomWill bid you enter in.
We'll range the wide dominionOf our Redeemer round,And in dissolving rapturesBe lost in love profound; While all the flaming harpersBegin the lasting song,With hallelujahs rollingFrom the unnumbered throng.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—HYMNS FOR SOCIAL WORSHIP.»; hymn number «492» (large), tune name «WEBB. 7s & 6s. D.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «D.» in a smaller size), «GEORGE J. WEBB.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one line per system, with «1.» before «Speak»: system 1 = verse lines 1–3, system 2 = verse lines 4–6; verse line 7 is printed in italics as a second line under the end of system 1, preceded by «D. S.—», and verse line 8 in italics as a second line under the start of system 2; they are sung there after the «D. S.» at the end of system 2 (the music returns to the segno over «And» and ends at «Fine.» after «joined;»). Stanza 1 below is assembled in the order sung. «fainting», «voices», «devotion», «await», «courage», «brother», «pilgrim» are set unbroken under the staves. The italic reference line «246, 415.» (= the same words may be sung to the tunes of hymns 246 or 415) stands under the music; stanzas 2–3 follow as text in the left column, numbered «2», «3» (written «2.», «3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), with «Anon.» in italics after stanza 3. Lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. «He 'll» (stanza 2) is set with a space before the apostrophe and is kept so; «We'll» (stanza 3) is set close. The print sets a thin space before «;» («clay ;», «profound ;»); it is closed up here. Apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
