1

Come, thou Fount of every blessing,Tune my heart to sing thy grace;Streams of mercy never ceasingCall for songs of loudest praise.Teach me ever to adore thee,May I still thy goodness prove,While the hope of endless gloryFills my heart with joy and love.

2

Here I raise my Ebenezer,Hither by thy help I've come,And I hope by thy good pleasureSafely to arrive at home.Jesus sought me when a stranger,Wandering from the fold of God;He to rescue me from dangerInterposed his precious blood.

3

O, to grace how great a debtorDaily I'm constrained to be!Let thy goodness like a fetterBind me closer still to thee.Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,—Prone to leave the God I love,—Here's my heart—O, take and seal it;Seal it for thy courts above.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—HYMNS FOR SOCIAL WORSHIP.»; hymn number «503» (large), tune name «NETTLETON. 8s & 7s. D.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «D.» in a smaller size), «DR. NETTLETON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear. System 1 (closed by a repeat sign and «Fine») carries two lines between the staves, enclosed in braces with «1.» before them — «Come, thou Fount of ev - ery bless - ing, Tune my heart to sing thy grace;» sung the first time, «Streams of mer - cy nev - er ceas - ing Call for songs of loud - est praise.» on the repeat — and under them, in italics, the line headed «D. C.—» («While the hope of end - less glo - ry Fills my heart with joy and love.»), sung to system 1 after the «D. C.» that closes system 2 («Teach me ev - er to a - dore thee, May I still thy good - ness prove,»). Stanza 1 below is assembled in the order sung (verse lines 7–8 are the italic D. C. line). Stanzas 2–3 follow as text, stanza 2 in the left column under the reference line «844, 132.» in italics (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 844 or 132), stanza 3 in the right column, then «Robert Robinson.» in italics. The stanza numbers 2 and 3 are printed without a full stop (numbered «2.», «3.» here like stanza 1). Lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («God ;», «be !», «seal it ;») and a narrower one before the apostrophe of «I 'm» and «Here 's» (10–11 px against 16–18 px word spaces at 450 dpi; «I've» in stanza 2 is set tight); both are closed up here. «Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,—» and «Prone to leave the God I love,—» with comma and em dash, «heart—O,» with an em dash, as printed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
