⤢ Full screenLet me go where saints are going,To the mansions of the blest;Let me go where my RedeemerHas prepared his people's rest:I would gain the realms of brightness,Where they dwell forevermore;I would share the joys that wait meOver on the other shore.
Let me go where none are weary,Where is raised no note of woe;Let me go and bathe my spiritIn the rapture angels know:Let me go, for bliss eternalLures my soul away, away,And the victor's song triumphantThrills my heart, I cannot stay.
Let me go, why should I tarry? What has earth to bind me here? What but cares and toils and sorrows? What but death and pain and fear?Let me go, for hopes most cherished,Blasted round me often lie:Here I've gathered brightest flowersBut to see them fade and die.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—HYMNS FOR SOCIAL WORSHIP.»; hymn number «504» (large), tune name «LET ME GO. 8s & 7s. P.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «P.» in a smaller size), «UNKNOWN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, in a bold condensed face. Between the staves of system 1, in braces with «1.» before them: «Let me go where saints are going, To the mansions of the blest;» (first time, first ending «1st.») and «Let me go where my Re - deem - er Has pre- (omit.) . . . .» (second time: «(omit.)» in italics = skip the first ending), continued right of the brace, under the second ending «2d.» and the following bars, by «pared his people's rest : I would gain the realms of»; system 2 carries «brightness, Where they dwell for - ev - er - more; I would share the joys that wait me O - ver on the other shore.» and ends with «D. C. for Chorus.». The chorus is printed under the verse lines of system 1, in italics, in braces with «D.C.—» before them: «Let me go, 'tis Jesus calls me, Let me gain the realms of day;» and «Bear me over, angel pinions, Longs my (omit.) . . . . .», continued right of the brace by «soul to be a-way.»; it is sung to system 1 after the D. C. (first ending, then second ending) and ends at «Fine.» (over the double bar after the second ending). Stanza 1 and the chorus below are assembled in the order sung; «Has pre- … pared» is joined as «Has prepared», «Re - deem - er», «for - ev - er - more», «O - ver» and «a-way» are written as whole words. The chorus is printed once, with stanza 1 only. Stanzas 2–3 follow as text in the left and right columns (no reference line is printed for this hymn), then «Anon.» in italics. The stanza numbers 2 and 3 are printed without a full stop (numbered «2.», «3.» here like stanza 1). Lines 2, 4, 6, 8 of each stanza are indented in the print. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «?» («rest :», «woe ;», «know :», «tarry ?», «here ?», «sorrows ?», «fear ?», «lie :») and before the apostrophe of «I 've» (stanza 3); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
