⤢ Full screenSoldiers of Christ, arise,And put your armor on;Fight, for the battle will be ours;We fight to win a crown.
We fight not against flesh,We wrestle not with blood;But principalities and powers,And for the truth of God;
With wicked spirits, too,That in high places stand,Perverting oft the word of God,And say 't is by command.
Put all the armor on,Like valiant soldiers stand;Let all your loins be girt with truth,Waiting our Lord's command.
While Jesus is our friend,And his rich grace supplies,We 'll march like valiant soldiers on;We 're sure to win the prize.
The battle 's almost o'er;The race is nearly run;Then with our glorious, conquering KingWe 'll sit down on his throne.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «602» (large) in the left column of p. 196, under «George Heath.» of hymn 601, with the reference line «810, 558, 732.» in italics beside it (= sing to the tune of hymn 810, 558 or 732); six numbered stanzas, the whole hymn in the left column; «Charles Wesley.» in italics at the end. The first word «SOLDIERS» is set in a capital and small capitals. The print sets a thin space before «;» («on ;», «ours ;», «blood ;», «God ;», «stand ;», «on ;», «o'er ;», «run ;»); it is closed up here. «'t is» (stanza 3), «We 'll» (stanzas 5 and 6), «We 're» (stanza 5) and «battle 's» (stanza 6) are set with a space before the apostrophe in the print and are kept so. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6, like the three tunes of the reference line).
