Let me but hear my Saviour say

  • No. 633
  • Words Isaac Watts.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Let me but hear my Saviour say,Strength shall be equal to thy day,Then I rejoice in deep distress,Upheld by all-sufficient grace.

2

I can do all things, or can bearAll suffering, if my Lord be there;Sweet pleasures mingle with the pains,While he my sinking head sustains.

3

I glory in infirmity,That Christ's own power may rest on me;When I am weak, then am I strong:Grace is my shield, and Christ my song.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «633» (large) at the head of the right column of p. 207; reference line «514, 538, 932.» in bold italic figures beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 514, 538 or 932; the PDF text layer reads «614, 638, 982.», but the first figures of «514» and «538» are the flat-topped italic 5 — see uncertainties.md); three stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); «Isaac Watts.» in italics at the end (the last letters smudged). The first word «LET» is set as a capital L followed by «ET» in small capitals. All four lines of each stanza are set flush. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («there ;», «me ;», «strong :»); it is closed up here. The printer's apostrophe is written straight («Christ's»). No meter is printed (the text is L. M., 8.8.8.8).
