⤢ Full screenDelightful work! young souls to win,And turn the rising raceFrom the deceitful paths of sin,To seek redeeming grace.
Children our kind protection claim,And God will well approveWhen infants learn to lisp his name,And their Redeemer love.
Be ours the bliss, in wisdom's wayTo guide untutored youth,And show the mind which went astrayThe Way, the Life, the Truth.
Almighty God, thine influence shed,To aid this blest design; The honors of thy name be spread,And all the glory thine.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «648» (large) in the lower half of the left column of p. 211, under hymn 647's «Reginald Heber.», with the reference line «201, 724, 446.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 201 LITCHFIELD, 724 HERBERT or 446 DENTON, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «DELIGHTFUL» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Delightful». «Joseph Straphan.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «!» and «;» («work !», «design ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling («honors», «untutored»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
