⤢ Full screenHaste, my dull soul, arise,Shake off thy care;Press to thy native skies,Mighty in prayer.Christ, he has gone before,Count all thy sufferings o'er;He all thy burdens bore;Jesus is there!
Souls for the marriage feastRobe and prepare;Holy must be such guests;Jesus is there!Saints, wear your victor palms,Chant your celestial psalms:Bride of the Lamb, thy charms,O let me wear!
Heaven's bliss is perfect, pure;Jesus is there!Heaven's bliss is ever sure;Thou art its heir. What makes its joys complete? What makes its hymns so sweet?—There we our friends shall greet:Jesus is there.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—GODLY LIFE.»; hymn number «659» (large, left), tune name «HEALDSBURG. 6s & 4s.» centred over the music, «F. E. BELDEN.» at the right (capitals and small capitals); in the left margin, printed vertically, «by F. E. Belden.» beside system 1 and «Copyrighted 1886.» beside system 2 (= «Copyrighted 1886 by F. E. Belden.»; the last figure of the year read from the native pixels, see `uncertainties.md`). A «1886» written by hand in ink at the top right corner of the page is an owner's note, not print, and is not transcribed. Stanza 1 is set between the staves, four verse lines per system, with «1.» before «Haste»; «a - rise» and «Je-sus» are printed in syllables and joined here. Stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in two columns below the music, under the italic reference line «655, 485.» (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 655 or 485); «Anon.» in italics after stanza 3. The stanza numbers of the text stanzas are printed without a full stop («2 Souls»); they are numbered «2.» here like stanza 1. Lines 2, 4 and 8 of each text stanza (the 4-syllable lines) are indented in the print. The printer's thin space before «;», «:», «!» and «?» («prepare ;», «there !», «complete ?») is closed up here. «Heaven's», the dash of «sweet?—» and the full stop of the last «Jesus is there.» are the print's.
