⤢ Full screenWhen languor and disease invadeThis trembling house of clay,'T is sweet to look beyond my pain,And long to fly away;—
Sweet on his faithfulness to rest,Whose love can never end;Sweet on his covenant of graceFor all things to depend;—
Sweet, in the confidence of faith,To trust his firm decrees;Sweet to lie passive in his hands,And know no will but his.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «701» (large) at the foot of the right column of p. 228, below hymn 700, with the reference line «399, 889, 669.» in italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 399, 889 or 669); three stanzas numbered «1»–«3» (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), with «Augustus M. Toplady.» in italics after stanza 3. The first word is set «WHEN» — «W» full capital, «HEN» in small capitals; written in ordinary type here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print (line 3 of stanza 1, «'T is sweet…», starts with a hanging apostrophe). The print sets a thin space before «;» («away ;—», «end ;», «depend ;—», «decrees ;»); it is closed up here, and the apostrophe of «'T is» is written straight, with the space between «T» and «is» as printed. No meter is printed (the text is C. M., 8.6.8.6, like the referenced tunes). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
