The Christian — Trust and Resignation

My times of sorrow and of joy

  • No. 729
  • Words Benjamin Beddome.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

My times of sorrow and of joy,Great God, are in thy hand;My choicest comforts come from thee,And go at thy command.

2

If thou shouldst take them all away,Yet would I not repine; Before they were possessed by me,They were entirely thine.

3

Nor would I drop a murmuring word,Though the whole world were gone,But seek enduring happinessIn thee, and thee alone.

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «729» (large) near the foot of the left column of p. 237, with the reference line «724, 369, 395.» in bold italics beside it (sing to the tune of hymn 724, 369 or 395); stanzas 1–2 at the foot of the left column and stanza 3 («Nor would I drop a murmuring word,») at the head of the right column, numbered «1»–«3» (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), with «Benjamin Beddome.» in italics after stanza 3. The first word is set «MY» — «M» full capital, «Y» in small capital; written in ordinary type here. Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. The print sets a thin space before «;» («hand ;», «repine ;») and a wide space after «God,» in stanza 1; both are closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
