Be tranquil, O my soul

  • No. 738
  • Words Thomas Hastings.
  • 4 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Be tranquil, O my soul,Be quiet every fear!Thy Father hath supreme control,And he is ever near.

2

Ne'er of thy lot complain,Whatever may befall;Sickness or sorrow, care or pain,'Tis well appointed all.

3

A Father's chastening handIs leading thee along;Nor distant is the promised land,Where swells the immortal song.

4

O, then, my soul, be still!Await heaven's high decree;Seek but to do thy Father's will,It shall be well with thee.

The printer's apostrophes are written straight («Ne'er», «'Tis», «Father's», «heaven's»). No meter is printed (the text is S. M., 6.6.8.6). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
