Words

The Lord my Shepherd is,I shall be well supplied;Since he is mine and I am his,What can I want beside?

He leads me to the placeWhere heavenly pasture grows,Where living waters gently pass,And full salvation flows.

If e'er I go astray,He doth my soul reclaim,And guides me in his own right way,For his most holy name.

While he affords his aid,I cannot yield to fear;Though I should walk through death's dark shade,My Shepherd still is near.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «THE CHRISTIAN—GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.»; hymn number «762» (large), tune name «KENTUCKY. S. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «JEREMIAH INGALLS.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «The»: «Shep - herd», «sup - plied» and «be - side» are hyphenated under the notes. Under the music the reference line «558, 732, 810.» in bold italics (sing also to the tune of hymn 558, 732 or 810); stanzas 2–4 follow as text in the left column, numbered «2»–«4» without a full stop (numbered «2.»–«4.» here like stanza 1). Stanza 4, line 3 «Though I should walk through death's dark shade,» is printed over two lines for lack of width («…through death's» / «dark shade,» turned over); it is one verse line here. «Isaac Watts.» in italics after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «?» («plied ;», «side ?», «fear ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («e'er», «death's»). Lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented in the print. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
