⤢ Full screenA little while, our Lord shall come,And we shall wander here no more; He'll take us to our Father's home,Where he for us has gone before.
A little while, he'll come again;Let us the precious hours redeem,Our only grief to give him pain,Our joy to serve and follow him.
A little while, 'twill soon be past,Why should we shun the shame and cross;O let us in his footsteps haste,Counting for him all else but loss.
A little while,—come, Saviour, come! For thee thy church has tarried long;Take thy poor, wearied pilgrims home,To sing the new, eternal song.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «788» (large) in the left column of p. 259, under «Anon.» of hymn 787, with the reference line «316, 538, 875.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 316 OLDEN, 538 HEBRON or 875 SESSIONS, all L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines of eight syllables are L. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas 1–2 stand at the foot of the left column; stanzas 3–4 continue at the top of the right column, followed by «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned. Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first words «A LITTLE» are set as a capital A and small capitals; written «A little». In stanza 3 the second line is too long for the column: «cross;» is carried to a third, further-indented printed line; it is one verse line here («Why should we shun the shame and cross;»). The print sets a thin space before «;» and «!» («again ;», «cross ;», «come !», «long ;»); it is closed up here. The printer's curly apostrophes are written straight («Father's», «He'll», «he'll», «'twill»). Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation (the dash «while,—come») and capitals are the print's.
