⤢ Full screenJesus, our Hope, our Life, our Heaven,The lingering times have flown; To thee the kingdom now is given;Return and claim thine own.
And, as we wait, along the skiesUnearthly glory steals; And our glad spirits seem to rise,To haste thy chariot wheels.
Although they seem to linger, stillThy retinue on highIs marshalled, and awaits the willThat bids their myriads fly.
Then we will wait, nor deem too longThe closing hours of grace; But trim our lamps with cheerful song,Till we shall see thy face.
Safe with the ransomed we shall stand,And raise the victor's song;A golden harp in every hand,And praise on every tongue.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «800» (large) in the right column of p. 262, under «Thomas Kelly.» of hymn 799, with the reference line «201, 395, 114.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 201 LITCHFIELD, 395 BALERMA or 114 HOWARD, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the referenced tunes). Five stanzas in the right column, numbered «1»–«5» without periods (written «1.»–«5.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, at the end. The first word «JESUS» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Jesus». The print sets a thin space before «;» («flown ;», «given ;», «steals ;», «grace ;», «song ;»); it is closed up here. Apostrophes are written straight. Spelling («marshalled», «ransomed»), punctuation and capitals («Hope», «Life», «Heaven») are the print's; line 2 of stanza 3 («Thy retinue on high») ends without punctuation, as printed.
