⤢ Full screenLet others seek a home below,We'll be gathered home;Which flames devour or waves o'erthrow,We'll be gathered home.
We'll work till Jesus comes,We'll work till Jesus comes,We'll work till Jesus comes,And we'll be gathered home.
Be mine the happier lot to own,We 'll be gathered home;A heavenly mansion near the throne,We 'll be gathered home.
Then, fail this earth, let stars decline,We 'll be gathered home; And sun and moon refuse to shine,We 'll be gathered home.
Though desolation here may be,We 'll be gathered home; That heavenly mansion stands for me,We 'll be gathered home.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.»; hymn number «805» (large), tune name «LAND OF REST. C. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «DR. WILLIAM MILLER.» at the right (capitals and small capitals), «Chorus.» (bold) under it, over the chorus bars. Stanza 1 is interlinear, in a bold condensed face, in system 1, in braces with «1.» before them: «Let oth - ers seek a home be - low, We'll be gathered home;» (first time, first ending «1st.») and «Which flames de - vour or waves o'erthrow, (omit.) . . . .» (second time: «(omit.)» in italics = skip the first ending), continued right of the brace, under the second ending «2d.», by «We'll be gathered home.». The chorus is printed once, as one line under the soprano (end of system 1 and system 2): «We'll work till Je - sus comes, We'll work till Je - sus comes, We'll work till Je - sus comes, And we'll be gathered home.», with «We'll work» printed three more times in a lower line — the echo sung by the lower voices while the soprano holds «work» (tenor and bass in bars 8 and 14, alto and bass in bar 11). «gathered» and «o'erthrow,» are printed whole under two notes. Stanza 1 and the chorus below are assembled in the order sung, the syllables joined into words; the echoes are not repeated in the chorus text. The chorus follows every stanza (the print gives no instruction; it is printed once, with stanza 1). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music (no reference line is printed for this hymn), then «Anon.» in italics. The stanza numbers 2–4 are printed without a full stop (numbered «2.»–«4.» here like stanza 1); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. In stanzas 2–4 every «We 'll» is set with a space before the apostrophe (a thinner one in the second line of stanzas 2 and 3) and is kept so, as in HT_0019 and HT_0026; the interlinear «We'll» (bold condensed face) is set tight. The print sets a thin space before «;» («gathered home ;» under the staves and in stanzas 2–4); it is closed up here. Straight apostrophes are used for the printer's curly ones. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. A pencil note of the exemplar above the running head is not print and is not transcribed.
