Lo! an angel loud proclaiming,Brings the gospel of good cheer;Every kindred, tongue, and people,Fear the Lord, soon to appear!ProclamationOf the hour of Judgment near.

Lo! another angel follows,With another solemn cry;"Babylon the great is fallen!"Peals like thunder through the sky:"Let my peopleNow from all her errors fly."

Yet, a third and solemn messageNow a final doom proclaims;All who worship beast or imageSoon shall feel the avenging flames:Grace no longerShelters their unworthy names.

Macduff.»), with the reference line «85[4], 844.» in italic figures on the same line — the third figure of the first number is hidden under a blot of manuscript ink in this exemplar (see `uncertainties.md`: read as 854); no tune and no meter of its own (six lines, 8.7.8.7.4.7). Four stanzas, then «Anon.» in italics at the foot of the right column. The first word «LO!» is set in capitals and small capitals; it is written «Lo!» here. Stanzas are numbered «1», «2»… without a full stop in the print (numbered «1.» etc. here); lines 2, 4 and 6 are indented and line 5 more. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and «:» («Lo !», «cheer ;», «sky :»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «dragon's» is written straight; the quotation marks of stanza 2 are the print's. The exemplar is heavily annotated by hand around this hymn (underlinings, «"3 Messages"», «3 Angels», a note at the foot and one in the margin); none of it is printed and none of it is transcribed.
