⤢ Full screenLong for my Saviour I've been waiting,Long time have watched by night and day;Feared, lest my faith and hope abating,I should lose courage by the way.
Jesus soon is coming; This is my song;—Cheers the heart when joys depart,And foes are pressing strong.
Here in this vale of sin and sorrowI have been wandering many years,Still looking for that happy morrowWhen God would wipe away my tears.
Ofttimes the tempter comes in power,Fain then would lead my steps astray; But when the clouds begin to lower,Hope turns the darkness into day.
O it will be but little longerI must these many woes endure; Then let my faith and hope grow stronger; My Father's promise still is sure.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «WAITING FOR CHRIST—CLOSING WORK.»; hymn number «872» (large), tune name «EXPECTATION. P. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «ARRANGED.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, in a bold condensed face, in system 1, in braces with «1.» before them: «{ Long for my Sav - iour I've been wait - ing, Long time have watched by night and day; }» (first time) and «{ Feared, lest my faith and hope a - bat - ing, I should lose cour - age by the way. }» (on the repeat). The chorus is printed once, with stanza 1, under «Chorus.» (bold) in system 2: «Je - sus soon is com - ing; This is my song;—Cheers the heart when joys de - part, And foes are press-ing strong.»; it is set out here in four lines at its heavy bars, and follows every stanza (the print gives no instruction). Some letters of the worn bold condensed face look like others at the scan's resolution («Leng», «cour - ago», «ie» for «Long», «courage», «is»); the words are read (uncertainties.md). Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text below the music in two columns (stanza 3 begins at the foot of the left column and ends at the top of the right column); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented. No reference line is printed. The print sets a thin space before «;» («day ;», «coming ;», «astray ;», «endure ;», «stronger ;»); it is closed up here. Straight apostrophes are used for the printer's curly ones («I've», «Father's»). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's (stanza 2 line 4 ends with «tears.»; stanza 4 line 1 «O it will be but little longer» has no comma). «Anon.» in italics closes the hymn under stanza 4.
