From heaven angelic voices sound:Behold the Lord of glory crowned,Arrayed in majesty divine,And in his highest glories shine.
The grave yields up its precious trust,Which long has slumbered in the dust,Resplendent forms ascending, fair,Now meet the Saviour in the air.
Descending with his azure throne,He claims the kingdom for his own;The saints rejoice, they shout, they sing,And hail him their triumphant King.
O joyful day, when he appearsWith all his saints, to end their fears! Our Lord will then his right obtain,And in his kingdom ever reign.
About this hymn
As printed As printed: running head «SECOND ADVENT—EXECUTIVE JUDGMENT.»; hymn number «883» (large), tune name «ALL SAINTS. L. M.» centred over the music (condensed capitals and small capitals), «WILLIAM KNAPP.» at the right (capitals and small capitals; the second L of WILLIAM is a damaged sort that prints like «I.»). Stanza 1 is interlinear, one verse-line pair per system, with «1.» before «Star»: «1. Star of our hope! he'll soon ap-pear, The last loud trump- et speaks him near;» / «Hail him, all saints, from pole to pole—How wel - come to the faith - ful soul!». Stanzas 2–5 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «301, 19, 624.» in italic figures (= the words may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 301, 19 or 624), numbered «2»–«5» without periods (written «2.»–«5.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book), followed by «Anon.» in italics. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and «:» («hope !», «near ;», «soul !», «sound :», «own ;», «fears !»); it is closed up here. «he'll» with a straight apostrophe; «pole—How» with an em dash; «Saviour» as printed. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
