Second Advent

Throned on a cloud, the Judge will come

  • No. 892
  • Metre C. M.
  • Words Anon.
  • 3 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

Throned on a cloud, the Judge will come,Bright flames prepare his way;Thunder and darkness, fire and storm,Lead on the dreadful day.

2

No more shall bold blasphemers say,"Judgment will ne'er begin;"No more abuse his long delayBy carelessness and sin.

3

Then shall the Lord a refuge proveFor all his poor oppressed,To save the people of his love,And give the weary rest.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «892» (large) in the right column of p. 298, under hymn 891 («Charles Wesley.»), with the reference line «201, 369, 724.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 201 LITCHFIELD, 369 MELODY or 724 HERBERT, all C. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M., like the referenced tunes). Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «THRONED» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Throned». «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, at the foot of the column. The print sets a thin space before «;» and inside the quotation marks («way ;», «" Judgment will ne'er begin ; "»); it is closed up here, and the quotation marks and apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. The copy carries a handwritten note beside the number (not printed; see uncertainties.md).
