1

When thou, my righteous Judge, shalt come,To call thy ransomed people home,Shall I among them stand?Shall such a worthless worm as I,Who sometimes am afraid to die,Be found at thy right hand?

2

I love to meet among them now,Before thy gracious throne to bow,Though weakest of them all;Nor can I bear the piercing thought,To have my worthless name left out,When thou for them shalt call?

3

Prevent, prevent it by thy grace!Be thou, dear Lord, my hiding-placeIn that expected day.Thy pardoning voice, O let me hear,To still each unbelieving fear,Nor let me fall, I pray.

4

Let me among thy saints be found,Whene'er the Archangel's trump shall sound,To see thy smiling face; Then joyfully thy praise I'll sing,While heaven's resounding mansions ringWith shouts of endless grace.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «SECOND ADVENT—EXECUTIVE JUDGMENT.»; hymn number «897» (large, left), tune name «ARIEL. C. P. M.» centred over the music (condensed display capitals), «LOWELL MASON.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves, one line per system, with «1.» before «When»: «When thou, my right- eous Judge, shalt come, To call thy ransomed peo-ple home,» / «Shall I among them stand? Shall such a worthless worm as I, Who sometimes am a-» / «fraid to die, Be found at thy right hand? Be found at thy right hand?» — the last line is sung twice to the music (printed twice under the staves); here it is written once, as in the text stanzas. Stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column below the music, under the reference line «235, 658.» in italic figures (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 235 or 658), followed by «Selina, Countess of Huntingdon.» in italics; hymn 898 follows. The stanza numbers of the text stanzas are printed without a full stop («2 I love»); they are numbered «2.»–«4.» here like stanza 1. Lines 3 and 6 of each text stanza are indented in the print. Stanza 4, line 2 is too long for the column and its last word runs over («shall / sound,»); joined here as one verse line. The printer's thin space before «;», «?» and «!» («all ;», «face ;», «stand ?») is closed up here; apostrophes are written straight. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's. Handwritten notes of the exemplar (top edge; left margin «Lady Huntington convert of John Wesley») are not part of the text.
