⤢ Full screenHark! the Archangel's trump is sounding,Solemn tones break on the ear;Louder now its echoes bounding,All the earth astonished hear:Hallelujah!Christ our Saviour doth appear.
See the righteous dead are waking,Coming forth from dust anew;Light resplendent o'er them breaking;—Jesus Christ appears to view!Hallelujah! They have found the promise true.
Now the happy throng in unionRise to meet their coming Lord;Joyfully they hold communion,Entering on their great reward:Hallelujah!Praise his gracious name and word.
Freed from every pain and sorrow,Every tear is wiped away;No forebodings of a morrowDark and fearful—all is day!Day forever,With the saints, a blissful day.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «906» (large) in the left column of p. 304, under «Charles Wesley.» of hymn 905, with the italic reference line «772, 857.» (= sing to the tunes of hymns 772 or 857) beside the number. Four stanzas of six lines, numbered «1»–«4» without a full stop (numbered «1.»–«4.» here as in the other deliveries of this book): stanzas 1–2 in the left column, stanzas 3–4 at the top of the right column (beside stanzas 2–3 of hymn 905; their numbers «3», «4» continue 906, whose stanzas 1–2 end the left column — hymn 905 has its own 2–4 in the left column), then «Anon.» in italics at the right, on the line above «907». Lines 2, 4 and 6 are indented, line 5 further. The first word «HARK» is set in capitals and small capitals and is written «Hark» here. Stanza 1, line 1 is turned over in the print («Hark! the Archangel's trump is sound-» / «ing,») and is one verse line here. The print sets a thin space before «!», «;» and «:» («Hark !», «ear ;», «hear :», «Hallelujah !», «anew ;», «breaking ;—», «view !», «Lord ;», «reward :», «away ;», «day !»); it is closed up here. Spelling («Saviour»), punctuation (the dashes in «breaking;—», «fearful—all») and capitals («Archangel's») are the print's; apostrophes are written straight. The meter is not printed (8s, 7s & 4, like hymn 905 above it). A handwritten ink note of the exemplar («1869 Hymnal 3?4») stands over the «Anon.» line; it is not print and is not transcribed.
