⤢ Full screenBlessed are they henceforth that dieReclining on the Saviour's breast; They cease from every care and sigh,From all their labors they have rest.
No more they meet with cruel foes,No more with anxious care oppressed:They warred the conflict till life's close;Their toil is o'er, they sweetly rest.
The living saints have yet to meetAnd brave the tempter's utmost ire;The grave will be a blest retreatWhile earth is whelmed in troubles dire.
Thy righteous will be done, O God!To meet the foe and overcome,Or lay me down beneath the sodTo rest till thou shalt call me home.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «916» (large) at the top of the right column of p. 308, with the reference line «926, 923.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 926 or 923; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«4» without periods (written «1.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «BLESSED» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Blessed». «R. F. Cottrell.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («breast ;», «oppressed :», «close ;», «ire ;», «God !»); it is closed up here. The apostrophes («Saviour's», «life's», «o'er», «tempter's») are written straight. Spelling («Saviour», «labors»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
