⤢ Full screenUnvail thy bosom, faithful tomb;Take this new treasure to thy trustAnd give these sacred relics roomTo slumber in the quiet dust.
Nor pain, nor grief, nor anxious fear,Invades thy bounds; no mortal woesCan reach the peaceful sleeper here,While angels watch the soft repose.
So Jesus slept; God's dying SonPassed through the grave, and blessed the bed:Rest here, blest saint, till from his throneThe morning break, and pierce the shade.
About this hymn
As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «917» (large) in the right column of p. 308, under hymn 916 («R. F. Cottrell.»), with the reference line «927, 918.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 927 or 918 RUSSELL. L. M.; no meter is printed — the four lines 8.8.8.8 are L. M.). Stanzas numbered «1»–«3» without periods (written «1.»–«3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. The first word «UNVAIL» is set in capitals and small capitals; written «Unvail» (the print's spelling). «Isaac Watts.» in italics, right-aligned, at the foot of the column. The print sets a thin space before «;» and «:» («tomb ;», «bounds ;», «slept ;», «bed :»); it is closed up here. The apostrophe of «God's» is written straight. Stanza 3, line 2 («Passed through the grave, and blessed the bed:») is broken by the column width in the print («the bed :» on a line of its own) and is joined here. Spelling («Unvail», «Invades»), punctuation and capitals are the print's.
