Words

Jerusalem, my happy home,O, how I long for thee! When will my sorrows have an end?Thy joys when shall I see?

Thy walls are all of precious stone,Most glorious to behold;Thy gates are richly set with pearl,Thy streets are paved with gold.

Thy garden and thy pleasant walksMy study long have been;Such dazzling views, by human sightHave never yet been seen.

Lord, help us by thy mighty graceTo keep in view the prizeTill thou dost come to take us homeTo that blest paradise.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «REWARD OF SAINTS.»; hymn number «981» (large), tune name «ST. PETER. C. M.» centred over the music (capitals and small capitals), «REINAGLE.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves of the one system, in a small condensed bold face, with «1.» before «Je»: only «Je - ru-» is hyphenated, «salem», «happy» and «sorrows» are set solid (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). The reference line «794, 724, 114.» in italic figures stands under the music, above stanza 2 (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 794 ZERAH, 724 HERBERT or 114 HOWARD, all C. M.); stanzas 2–4 are printed as text in the left column, numbered «2»–«4» without periods (written «2.»–«4.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 of each stanza are indented, and stanza 1 is laid out the same way here. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 4. The print sets a thin space before «!», «?» and «;» («thee !», «end ?», «behold ;»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
