1

Lo, what a glorious sight appearsTo our believing eyes! The earth and seas are passed away,And the old rolling skies.

2

From the third heaven, where God resides,That holy, happy place,The New Jerusalem comes down,Adorned with shining grace.

3

Attending angels shout for joy,And the bright armies sing;Ye saints, behold the sacred seatOf your descending King!

4

The God of glory down to menRemoves his blest abode;Men are the objects of his love,And he their gracious God.

5

His own soft hand shall wipe the tearsFrom every weeping eye;And pains, and groans, and griefs, and fears,And death itself, shall die.

6

How bright the vision! O, how longShall this glad hour delay?Fly swifter round, ye wheels of time,And bring the welcome day!

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «982» (large) in the left column of p. 332, below hymn 981 (ST. PETER), with the reference line «1162, 201, 147.» in italic figures beside it (sing to the tunes of hymns 1162 NEW JERUSALEM, 201 LITCHFIELD or 147 BELMONT; no meter is printed — the lines 8.6.8.6 are C. M.). In this copy «1162» is underlined by a hand-drawn ink stroke (not print; see uncertainties.md). Stanzas numbered «1»–«6» without periods (written «1.»–«6.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2 and 4 indented. Line 3 of stanza 5 is too long for the column and runs over: «fears,» is printed alone on the next line; it is joined here into one verse line. «Isaac Watts.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 6. The print sets a thin space before «!», «?» and «;» («eyes !», «sing ;», «delay ?»); it is closed up here. Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
