1

There is a place of sacred rest,Far, far beyond the skies,Where beauty smiles eternally,And pleasure never dies;—My Father's house, my heavenly home,Where many mansions stand,Prepared, by hands divine, for allWho seek the better land.

2

When tossed upon the waves of life,With fear on every side,When fiercely howls the gathering storm,And foams the angry tide,Beyond the storm, beyond the gloom,Breaks forth the light of morn,Bright beaming from my Father's house,To cheer the soul forlorn.

3

In that pure home of tearless joyEarth's parted friends shall meet,With smiles of love that never fade,And blessedness complete. There, there adieus are sounds unknown;Death frowns not on that scene,But life and glorious beauty shine,Untroubled and serene.

About this hymn

As printed As printed: running head «REWARD OF SAINTS.»; hymn number «992» (large), tune name «OAKLEY. C. M. D.» centred over the music (condensed capitals; the «D.» in smaller type), «WILLIAM H. OAKLEY.» at the right (capitals and small capitals). Stanza 1 is interlinear, between the staves of the three systems, in a small bold face, with «1.» before «There»; only «e- / ter - nal - ly», «pleas - ure», «nev - er», «Fa- ther's» and «bet-ter» are hyphenated, the other two-note words («sacred», «beyond», «beauty», «heavenly», «many», «mansions», «Prepared,», «divine,») are set solid (see `lyrics_syllables.txt`). The reference line «989, 486,» in italic figures stands under the music, above stanza 2, and ends with a comma (= may also be sung to the tunes of hymns 989 VARINA or 486 MOUNT BETHEL, both C. M. D.); stanzas 2–3 are printed as text in the left column, numbered «2», «3» without periods (written «2.», «3.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2, 4, 6 and 8 of each stanza are indented, and stanza 1 is laid out the same way here. «Anon.» in italics, right-aligned, after stanza 3. The print sets a thin space before «;» («dies ;—»); it is closed up here. Ink stains lie over lines 5–8 of stanza 2; the type under them is legible (see `uncertainties.md`). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
