Reward of Saints

There is a world to come

  • No. 1001
  • Words Anon.
  • 5 stanzas
  • Words only in the original
1

There is a world to come,Blessed and pure;It is the Christian's home,Long to endure.O 't is a world most bright,No more death, nor woe, nor night,Faith views it with delight,Knowing 't is sure.

2

There Jesus Christ shall reign,All glorious King! There music's rapturous strainEver will ring:Saints, who in ages by,Suffered, and were called to die,There in sweet harmony,Anthems will sing.

3

O, 'twill be paradise,Eden restored; All beauteous in their eyesWho love the word:Wastes, that are now so drear,Like the rose shall blossom there,And be a garden fair,As saith the Lord.

4

There life's unfading treeWill bloom most fair,And immortalityIts leaves shall bear; While a pure stream will flow,And a joy no mortals knowWill to each soul bestowWho enters there.

5

O, that bright world to come!Tongue cannot tellHow blessed is the homeWhere saints will dwell;Turn then from sin away,And the word of God obey,Then at the last great day,All will be well.

About this hymn

As printed Words only. As printed: hymn number «1001» (large) in the left column of p. 339, directly under hymn 1000 («Anon.»), with NO reference line (no tune numbers and no meter are printed; the stanzas are 6.4.6.4.6.7.6.4, the meter of 1000 WORLD TO COME, P. M., printed at the top of the same page). Stanza 1 and stanza 2 (first four lines) at the foot of the left column; stanza 2 continues at the top of the right column («Saints, who in ages by,») without a number, then stanzas 3–5; numbered «1»–«5» without periods (written «1.»–«5.» here, as in the other deliveries of this book); lines 2, 4 and 8 of each stanza are indented. The first word «THERE» is set in a capital and small capitals; written «There». «Anon.» in italics at the right under stanza 5. The print sets a thin space before «;», «:» and «!» («pure ;», «King !», «ring :», «restored ;», «word :», «bear ;», «come !», «dwell ;»); it is closed up here, and the curly apostrophes are written straight («Christian's», «'t is», «music's», «'twill», «life's»). «'t is» (stanza 1, lines 5 and 8) is printed with a thin space between «'t» and «is» and is kept as two words (see `uncertainties.md`). Spelling, punctuation and capitals are the print's.
